I. Foreward, and onward…

The three compatriots stared at each other. Maps, documents, and other notes were scrawled across the tavern table, topped by a singular scroll of agreement.

All three down on their luck and seeking new fortunes. Tired of complacency within a countryside besieged by a Mad Duke. All prepared to sacrifice life and limb to obtain treasures far below the earth.

As they take up the pen and scrawl their names, perhaps in time they can take up such treasures and change the realm for the better.

Throughout history, no form of weapon has had as long and as storied of an impact upon the battlefield than the sword. … It is an object of sharpness, lethality, defense, discipline, and legend!

However, one object does surpass the sword. A tool that has risen and fell empires, brought both ruin and prosperity, and is itself the very tool of history and legend,… for no legend could be told without it. … The pen!

This week (not unlike prior weeks), I’m celebrating the power of the pen! In this day and age especially, it is a treasure of expression and genuinity. Only it can make the foundation of imaginative media rise to flight, and make mimicry machines merely attempt to imitate while reducing intellect.

There’s power in words! … Chosen carefully.

Which brings me neatly to the RPG Blog Carnival! … Once more, I’m celebrating July with the poly-topic: “Improv, Roleplay, and Warm-ups”. If you are interested in taking up the pen yourself, you can join into the carnival topic.

Also, WOW! I just stumbled upon a Kickstarter for a game shop in the town that I grew up in!!

»»»»»»THE ENCHANTED QUILL BOOKS & QUESTS ««««««Bound to be a unique stop on the geek journey for mid-MNers looking for inspiration! … Support the project; stock the shelves, build the game room, and bring the fun to life!

Forward over! Onto the round-up!

A Maniacs Insight (Where I Quote an Adjacent Substack Blog)

Starting can be very very difficult, especially if you have never made stuff for RPGs before and you feel intimidated. So before we begin, let me start by the only fundamental rule you must absolutely follow, no questions asked:

No matter what you think of the result, it’s gonna be worth it.

Trust me, no matter if you are a beginner or you do this as a job, you are always going to feel a little bit intimidated by your project, but overall remember no matter what comes out of this, you have made a thing, a real thing that lives in this world among us, and this is always going to be worth the effort, no matter what you or others think.
